Please Support St Paul’s
We invite visitors to the church and this website to join Saint Paul’s members, affiliates and friends in giving generously to support all the work of the church.
St. Paul wrote a number of things about giving. One of the best known comes from this passage of scripture “Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.”(2 Cor. 9:6-7)
He said that when greed is in charge, we cling to money and possessions as if they were permanently ours. When we rise above greed, we give to God’s work. Our attitude about is important. No doubt, God does appreciate the cheerful givers among us. If we look at the original Greek text we find the word cheerful may mean ‘hilariously’. The Greek word we translate ‘cheerful’ can mean ‘hilarious.’
Give Hilariously
Paul challenges us to give ‘hilariously.’ We are called to give spontaneously and joyfully. We can rise above greed by giving hilariously. May the gifts we give be made in gratitude for God’s gifts to us. Our response to God for all we’ve received can be giving hilariously, ridiculously, generously, and sacrificially.
